My website has moved!

Please visit me at christinebreakell-lee.com. A long time in the works, I am so excited to finally have my new site all done. I have added some images of new placements, which offers views of paintings in place (residents, commercial spaces…). I will continue to add more images as I receive them. There is also a press section that is new, and links to galleries, shops, designers and architects that I have worked with. You can still access my blog by a link on the new website. Please visit often!

Promise

“Promise” shown above in local modern home designed by Denise Ashmore of Project22Design. It  was a real pleasure to be contacted by Denise  for this project and to see her clean, modern aesthetic first hand in this stunning home. Janis is an amazing lifestyles photographer whose work I have admired for some time. Thank you Denise and Janis!

New studio at Parker Street Studios

Parker studio

I’m busy packing my many things for a change of space and inspiration. As of next week, I’ll be working out of a new studio at 1000 Parker Street. Looking forward to painting in this creative and inviting environment!

New Commission

This is a commission I did for a custom yacht. The client was looking for a special piece of art to sit inside a panelled niche on the boat. At just over 9′ long, it is striking installed flush with the dark panelling with a 1 1/2″ reveal around the piece. It appears to be floating behind the main sitting area. More photos to come after the project is completed.

Gathering

I just received this photo of interior designer Lisa Wrixon’s beautiful home. She has created a warm, inviting entrance that shows off her unfussy sophistication.  It was a pleasure painting four pieces for her personal space. Shown from left: Gathering and Treetop. The Art (and love) of Splash 2012

Tomorrow I attend the VIP party at the lovely CBC Vancouver for the 2012 Arts Umbrella auction “Splash”! I’m so excited to see “In the Woods” (pictured above) in the silent auction. A long-time patron of the great programs offered through Arts Umbrella, my kids  have had many amazing instructors, all providing a fun and creative environment for them to experiment in. Big thank you to Arts Umbrella for these experiences and hoping that this year’s 30th anniversary gala is the best yet… Friday let’s celebrate!!

IDS West 2012

IDS West was a great event. My third year exhibiting, I always really enjoy speaking with new and existing clients at the show. I am currently working on a new commissioned piece for clients referred to me by Good Space Design. The new 5′ piece will hang on a feature wall in their beautiful light-filled space overlooking English Bay. I also met Penelope Rogers of P. Rogers Designs who purchased Red Rock, shown at right in her stunning living room.

Thank you to everyone for visiting me!

I’m moving into the Vancouver Convention Centre today for IDS West. It will be my home for the next few days through the weekend. You can find me at booth #1105 across from the One of a Kind District, which is always inspiring and aesthetically awesome! Please stop by to say hello and have a look.

New Artist at Vancouver Art Gallery Rental and Sales!

I am so excited to be represented by the Vancouver Art Gallery Rental and Sales. “Red Necklace” (36″ x 36″, above) is one of five paintings currently available through the showroom. A long time supporter of the VAG and having grown up in Vancouver, I am really looking forward to working with the gallery. If you have not checked out their showroom, they are open weekdays and are located on the main floor of the art gallery. Knowledgeable staff will show you work from the 200 artists they represent. You can also visit their website for hours, services and available artwork here.

IDS West 2012

IDS West is coming up on Sept 27-30th at the Vancouver Convention Centre. I am happy to be exhibiting my 3rd time at this great show. Drop by at booth #1105 and say hello, see my new pieces. Exhibitor list is online here!

Splash, Arts Umbrella Auction 2012 is approaching!

I am proud to be participating in Splash, one of Vancouver’s most established charitable art auctions. This year it will be set in a new venue, CBC Vancouver, on Saturday, October 13th.  2012 also marks the 30th anniversary of this great event. “In the Woods”, pictured above, is featured in the silent auction. You can see the art preview exhibit September 24th – October 5th, 2012 at the Pendulum Gallery, 885 West Georgia Street or at the online gallery.

“Light’s Release” triptych (3 panels, each 24″ x 52″), completed for Gilmour Design Studios. The paintings pictured above installed in their client’s new office space in the Burrard building in downtown Vancouver.

New commissioned painting “Volcano Blossoms”

Commissioned painting “Volcano Blossoms” installed at client’s beautiful apartment, overlooking the mountains in Vancouver, BC. Newly decorated with a clean, modern aesthetic, clients Suzanne and Ken were looking for colourful, abstract artwork for their new space. The painting is 24″ x 60″, lengthening the wall in the dining area and the watery colours complementing the ocean view. Suzanne and Ken also purchased a smaller piece, “Capri” (below), named for its likeness to the famous Italian blue grotto.

It’s been an exiting and busy week. I met a new client with a beautiful home and a beautiful view. The couple purchased two pieces – “Capri”, a new painting that seemed made for their space, and a new commission that I am excited to start next week. I am also working on two commissioned paintings for friend and client Murray Gilmour of Gilmour Design Studio, which provides complete design services for residential and commercial interiors. You can see and read more here about their designs.

Many thanks to Good Space Design for displaying my new work in their beautiful gastown office. “Trapeze”, 36″ x 36″, sits above the sideboard in their client meeting area (shown above).

Artwork featured in Framework Magazine

Finally got to meet Bria Lear in person, editor at Framework Magazine, when she interviewed me for the June issue. She was animated about her newest endeavour and it shows in the final ambitious product – It is over 100 pages! Here are some photos from the shoot and you can read the whole article on page 50 at Framework Magazine.

“Orchid” 36″ x 36″, above. “Light’s Release” 54″ x 18″, below, on display at Good Space Design Group.

I had the pleasure of meeting with the lovely group at Good Space Design today. I brought in  a new painting “Light’s Release” to hang in their Gastown office, where they work with clients to provide creative interior design plans. Painting is pictured above in its new space.

Mixed media on panel with resin. 54″ x 18″.

Limelight (24″ x 24″) and Cloud Line (24″ x 24″) showing spring colours at Walrus.

New painting Two Hearts, (36″ x 24″) below, available through Artworks Gallery.

New painting at Brougham Interiors shown below, “Close Up” (top), 30″ x 30″, and below is “Nature Study”, 30″ x 30″ in progress.

So inspired by this time of year -ok it’s a little early for spring- and my new studio space. Still loving the Beaumont but have switched to a slightly larger space at the studio to allow me to spread out a bit, stand back from what I’m working on. All good. Above, new piece in progress!

ARTIST OF THE WEEK

Christine Breakell-Lee

“Only at the Beaumont a few months now, i have the enjoyable pleasure of sharing space with Christine & her bodies of work. It is amazing to watch her work & I’m taken back by every one  of her finished pieces. It seems as fast as they are off the easel, they are out the door into the hands of proud client. Take a moment & look at her website, or better yet, take a moment & come down to the studio to have a lookie loo.” https://mixc.wordpress.com/

– Thanks, Jude, for including me not only in the newsletter but also in the community at the Beaumont! I enjoy all my time there  -C.

New at Walrus…

If you’re in the Cambie area, stop in to Walrus and see my new painting. It’s a 36″ x 36″ on wood panel with resin called “Pink Moon”… although Caroline may still be going with her “Disco Ball”!

Happy New Year!

I am starting the New Year as part of “Fresh”, a group exhibit at Art Works Gallery in Yaletown, Vancouver. The show officially opens January 9th, and will feature new works from various artists. “Loose Ends” and “Hook, Line and Sinker”, below, are new paintings that are up on the walls! Other pieces available through Art Works are on their website. To see photos from the show, click on Fresh!

New Studio Space at the Beaumont

I began painting in my new space this week at the Beaumont Studios. It is a great space, filled with lovely light and is an inspiring environment to work in. The paintings I am currently working on is for a friend and client, who sold my first painting when I started dedicating my time to my artwork! Above are the first of four paintings, pictured in my new place.

Sold Treetop…

I visited my friend and client, interior designer Lisa Wrixon in her amazing new home in North Vancouver. The house is set close enough to the trees to enjoy the forest and mountain views and so it was fitting Lisa chose the painting above, Treetop, for her entrance way. It will be alongside complementary pieces I am creating for the space. It is an exciting project for a beautiful space and good friend – I’m very excited to get started!!

CANVAS LOUNGE DISPLAY

I had the awesome opportunity to show a few paintings at Canvas Lounge this Thursday night at an event supporting the arts in Vancouver. I thank the lovely Beaumont Studios for including me in this exhibit … details to follow soon on my new studio space. Hint: I am very excited!!

New painting, Boulder and Snow detail, full image above.

My Paintings are now available at Brougham Interiors…

I met with the owners of Brougham Interiors this week in their beautiful showroom on Fir Street in Vancouver. So excited to have my work on their walls and to get to know their designers. Four paintings will soon be up in the shop, including this large one below…

Love Letter….Just finished a new painting that reminds me of a well-worn note – aged, scripted and with pockets of light and dark, shimmers of gold leaf. Layers and layers…

Detail of Love Letter

Here’s a shot from IDSWest… After pestering the West Ender free-lance photographer, Andrew Chin, he was kind enough (and patient enough) to shoot my booth! Thanks!

Sold Fired Up Wave today – thank-you Walrus!! Here it is photographed in the courtyard outside my studio. You made my birthday and apparently the client’s birthday extra special too!

Had a great show at IDSWest. Such a positive experience again this year and look forward to working on the commissions and larger pieces that are coming up for me. Thanks for visiting me over the weekend!
